Our Experience with the E & L Proofings W9
David had his sights on bringing the W9 in several months ago after growing tired of his own phone (the Google Pixel). He was a bit skeptical about the price and the 2gb of ram it boasted, but ordered it anyway. Little did we know what we had stumbled upon a hidden gem. Our first impression blew us away. Most rugged smartphones we get tend to come packaged in a half-assed kind of manner. This was not the case with the W9. The packaging rivaled that of most, if not all top-tier/ modern phones.
Upon unpacking it, David didn’t hesitate to test it. He turned it on, played with it for a moment, then tossed it across the room and tested it again. Several tosses later, he laughed and mentioned that he liked throwing it. Minutes later, he was slamming it around inside a metal sink with the water running, first hot, then cold. After examining the tough phone, he looked around, sternly, “I think we might have found something”. Of course was not what we were expecting.
It took the rest of us weeks of battling with David just to find time to test it. He carried it with him everywhere, constantly threw it around, drove over it, hammered in nails with it, and scratched it against every surface he could find both wet and dry. When asked about his phone by strangers, he’d talk about it a bit and go to hand the stranger the phone fumbling slight and dropping it on purpose. Most stared in horror at this trick, but he’d casually laugh, pick it up and hand them the phone, and explain just how rugged it was.
It’s been just over 2 months now since David permanently claimed the phone as his. Coming from a man who is rarely impressed, that says a lot.
David gives the phone a 5/5 Stars in both value and power. Just take a look at the following footage of him throwing it:
Our criticisms of the W9
As far as being a modern rugged smartphone, we have none. We are truly impressed. As far as specs, we’d love to see 4gb or more in future models.
